England 2007 Tour 268 Reads
.
.
News I am honoured to be appointed Captain of the England Team to South Africa in April 2009 and I invite applications to join this tour. South Africa provides a very high standard of shooting and the Protea match has become one of the most difficult matches to win. I intend to take a team capable of doing just that and am looking for a blend of youth and experience to achieve that end.
With English XX approval, at least 4 members of the team will be under 25 and will receive some financial assistance towards the cost of the tour.

I am pleased to appoint Andrew Lothian as my Vice Captain and ask anyone interested in applying for this tour to make themselves known to Andrew or myself as soon as possible or apply by email by the end of August 2007.
The Team will be selected towards the end of September in order to maximise fundraising efforts to offset the cost of the tour.

In the next few days i'll be contacting people to sort rotas out so please jump the gun to avoid inconveniece.

Hope your all shooting better than I

Cheers

Fund Raising for this year 267 Reads
.
.
News Everyone,

Hope you shooting is going well as we enter the busy mid season. Can I just ask you to take 2 minutes to read this post about fundraising.

As an Under 25 group we all suffer the constant financial pressures of shooting. As a result we aim to hold events and competitions to help raise funds for kit, training subsidy and match entry. This year there are several things happen and they all need your input.

Bullet Ball

Emma Nuttall is kindly organising this event again this year and it promises to be very exciting. However, despite claims to the contrary, Emma is not actually superwoman and so we're looking for volunteers to help out. Everyone needs to help publicise the event (on Second Friday during the meeting 27th July), sell tickets and help on the day. We're probably going to be helping behind the bar and also in setting up and packing away afterwards. I'm going to draw up a rota of people so if you have a preference then shout (like being good a stacking chairs hungover). I know that some of you will have Queens II and uni shooting so volunteer early to stop clashes.

Under 25 BBQ
This year we're holding this event at the Inns of Court on Camp. It will also be the Under 25 Rifle Club AGM. we also need to sell tickets, help organise and run the Bar. Please let Ed Welford know if you can help out here. Again, we're looking for people to help out in the planning (whilst we'll all be involved in the execution)

Basically, we all need to work together (and especially with Emma and Ed) to make these events as successful aas possible. The ore work we do, the less we have to pay others to do it, and the more money we make!!!

If you have any ideas, email me (g.p.nelson@blueyonder.co.uk), for the ball email Emma (nutter_no5@hotmail.com) and for the bbq Ed (edwelford@hotmail.com).

Thanks

Graham

The Under 25 Rifle Club 280 Reads
.
.
News Under 25 Rifle Club is born!

The under 25 rifle club is the new, exciting way youth shooting is to operate in the UK. The club is the result of the formalisation of what was previously the GB Under 25s. The name 'GB Under 25 Rifle Team' shall remain, but exclusively for use of official NRA touring teams and the Under 25 Match during the Imperial Meeting. All other activities, including informal training days and practise matches will operate under the U25RC banner.

Why has this happened?

Under 25 shooting in the UK has moved on a lot in the last 10 years and has been a victim of its own success. Boring legal things like insurance and logistics now mean that we need to be affiliated to the NRA in order to meet, train and compete to the high standards we've become accustomed to.

What does this mean for me?

Some things are going to change - like a small membership fee (to cover the cost of the insurance and affiliation) - but most things will remain the same. The biggest difference is the elected committee; to look after your club and your interests - and that you can be part of this in future years.

The most important things to remember are that the Under 25 Rifle Club is not a replacement for any of the clubs you currently shoot with and that you don't have to be a member of the U25 RC to be picked for the GBU25 teams. It is just a great way of letting you practise and compete to your full potential all year round with other young shooters, whilst ensuring that your activities are safe and fully covered if anything should happen (which it won't).

What do I need to do?

If you haven't been collared by me yet you need to fill in an application form (email me - president@u25rc.co.uk). The subs are minimal (just to cover insurance) and once you've joined we'll see you on the ranges.

Who are the committee this year?

Graham Nelson - President president@u25rc.co.uk
Sam Adamson - Vice President vicepresident@u25rc.co.uk
Ed Jeens - Secretary secretary@u25rc.co.uk
Richard Heathcote - Treasurer treasurer@u25rc.co.uk

The club is very much in its infancy and the future is pretty much up to you - things started out as a method to allow us to keep training and competing together but plans for the future include a Match Rifle section, club stash, team matches, sponsorship and a club kit fund.

Get on board and email me, and look out for the website coming soon.

Good Shooting!!

Graham Nelson

We are being catered for at the Surrey RA, this includes, lunch, dinner, breakfast and lunch over the weekend and will cost £18 per head all in.

I know that Cost is always a top priority for you guys a so Here is the best I can work out per head. Targets and Markers £25.76; Food £18 (Total £43.76). The biggest cost is that of Ammunition as always. I am quite happy to provide for all those who require ammo but am equally happy if you have your own (as long as it meets NRA rules). RG is 45p a round an assuming 2x 2+10 at each range it will cost £32.40 for the weekend. These costs are just aproximations so subject to change, unfortunately you'll struggle to get change from £80 I think.

I will have a big anally retentive spreadsheet to work out everyone's costs so it is fair!

If anyone has any questions then please contact me asap to let me know (especially if you're veggie or similar). I have a bit of locker space on a first come first served basis. Don't forget your kit (especially bolts!!) and please bring enough cash, or a chequebook to keep my treasurer happy.

I'll be in the Surrey from about 9:30pm on Friday night, traffic permitting, so I'll see you there.

Cheers,

Graham

Training Folks,

The Plans for the general training weekend of 14th-15th April have been finalised. We will be shooting at 300, 600 and 900 yards with plenty of experienced coaches around for advice.

We will have several targets at each distance and the format will be for coached shooting. If anyone feels that they would like to improve (even if you've never done it before) their coaching skills then please let me know and I'll be happy to get you on a chair!

There will be a dinner supplied in the Surrey on saturday night, as well as breakfast on sunday and lunch on both days. The overall cost (including food, range hire and ammo) will be around £60-70 I hope.

With this in mind I need to know if you are coming for the weekend. Please contact me by email - g.p.nelson@blueyonder.co.uk - or by phone - 07855 612 860 and let me know. Everyone is welcome!

See you soon

Graham

Training From Graham Nelson

Under 25s,

I have been delighted to accept the post of Captain of the Under 25s for the Imperial meeting this year.

As you know the U25s are about far more than the 8 people who shoot the Under 25 match during the meeting. This year, with the world championships looming in August the U25s are focusing on the future. I want to encourage as many people as possible to shoot with the under 25s this year, especially those of you have just left school or cadets.

My email address is g.p.nelson@blueyonder.co.uk and I encourage anyone with queries, or shooting related problems and ideas to contact me. If I can't help I'll try and find someone who can!

The way that U25 shooting operates will be changing this year and I will be posting more information on plans for this later but for now I have a few dates for everyone's diaries.

April 14-15 - General Training weekend. Everyone is welcome, especially new faces. Experienced hands will be around to offer support, lack of experience will not exclude anyone! Time to dust off the score books, blow out the cobwebs and re-orientate ourselves with the black blob over there...

April 28-29 - Saturday, training target(s). Sunday Purples match. This is a fun team shoot for early season. Many of you may have County and club captains on your back to shoot this. For those of you who don't, time to show them what they are missing.

May 12-13 - Match/Training. London County host us in a mix of individual and team matches, with some time for training, and aparently Matt Charlton is organising the evening entertainment.....

May 26-28 - English XX Open

June 8-10 - Scottish Open

June/July 30-1 - Total Oil Challenge. Big team match, lots of fun!!

July 21-28 - NRA Imperial Meeting, to include Under 25 match and warm up team matches, usually in the week before.

August 25-27 - Welsh Open (sponsored by Pot Noodle - probably)

Please email to let me know about availablity and numbers for the above. I am aware that cost is an issue as always so we shall endeavour to keep these as low as possible.

I and the Under 25s will be looking for motivated people to help me out this year, and to help out with the planed improvements to how we work as a group. If anyone is interested then please get in touch.

See you all on the ranges across the UK soon. Finally,

GOOD SHOOTING!

Graham
